I’ve known Deb Hamberlin for nearly 20 years, and throughout that time she has been a mentor, role model, and now coach who has profoundly shaped my journey as an endurance athlete. From pacing me to my first Boston Qualifier in 2010 to helping me complete the grueling Leadville 100 as part of the Leadman series, Deb has always brought wisdom, calm guidance, and contagious passion to everything she does. Whether she was running alongside me or inspiring me from her own competitions—like at the Javelina 100 in 2010 which nudged me into ultrarunning—Deb has a rare gift for making the seemingly impossible feel within reach.

Now in my mid-60s, I began working with Deb formally in 2024 through Kestrel Coaching. She custom-tailored my training to reflect both my aspirations and the realities of an aging but still ambitious athlete. Her attention to detail, focus on mobility and strength, and genuine care made each day’s training simple to follow and sustainable, despite my busy life and joint issues. I had strong performances in several 50Ks, finishing at or near the top of my age group. Deb’s deep love of the sport is infectious, and I’m grateful to continue working with her as I pursue my next ultrarunning adventure.
